If they had only had an inkling as to what Eren was up to, how fiercely protective he was over his homeland and the people he loved (they should have known, he'd been that way ever since the beginning). Replaying moment after moment, line after line, thinking over every last last or action as though one day they would finally have an epiphany that would at least lead them to the correct answer (spoiler, there never was one.)]

Eren's wishes, the hope for a treaty of some kind, royal blood and founder's powers, none of that would have mattered when weighed against the lives of all their officers who were tainted with spinal fluid.
